Save The Endangered

One Small Step Can Make A Big Impact On Others Life Whether Animal Or Human

This website was created in order to raise awareness for endangered species, more specifically Dholes. Dholes are also commonly known as Asiatic wild dog, red dog, and whistling dogs and are native to Central, South, East Asia, and Southeast Asia.

By reading you'll understand just why this beautiful animal has gone endangered, the efforts that are being put forth in order to save this species and what you can do to help conserve the species. Working together in order to save animals will bring us all together while also keeping our animals and environment a happy and healthy place to live and flourish. So, whats better than learning about a endangered species in hopes that you can help such animals to live and a healthy environment.

Where do Dholes live, what are their natural habitats?

Dholes are native to Central, South, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. Their natural habits are "dense forests, scrub, steppes, and alpine regions." their habitats change and they adapt pretty well.

What is the common and scientific name of this animal?

The common names of this animal is Dhole, Asiatic wild dog, red dog, and whistling dog. However the scientific name for these animals are Cuon alpinus, Hard to say isn't it.

features of the animal

Dholes look similar to foxes. Dholes are orange in color and usually have white bellies, chests, and feet. they have long snouts and sharp teeth. They have rounded ears and long tails, Males are bigger than females.

What do Dholes eat? What are their roles in the ecosystem?

Dholes are carnivorous. Dholes pray on many animals, uselessly hoofed such as deer, wild pigs, buffalo, wild goats, gaur, banteng, wild sheep, and reindeer, depending on where the Dhole is located. However their diet be different if they don't have options available so they eat things such as berries, bugs, lizards, and rabbits. They support the ecosystem by balancing the amount of prey in the area. allowing balance in the food chain.

ways that the Dholes can be helped, and ways they're already being helped

You can help the population of Dholes by leaving their habitats and prey alone in their areas where they're present, don't hunt or keep them in captivity. IUCN has already classified Dholes as endangered. This allows information to get out on this species to raise awareness, being on the red list also helps protection of this specie.

causes of endangerment.

"Factors contributing to this decline include habitat loss, loss of prey, competition with other species, persecution due to livestock predation and disease transfer from domestic dogs."

This orange fox look alike is a very unique animal. Dholes are an amazing animal native to Central, South, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. Dholes spend their day in jungle like terrain, eating hoofed animals such as deer and goats. these playful animals are much to dogs but don't fit into the complete classification of them making them unique. Save The Endangered goal is to give this unique and playful animal a outlet for people to learn more about this species in hopes that people will come together to help these amazing creatures a future to live in a healthy environment.

What took place to make Dholes become endangered? Multiple factors will play in the role of a animal becoming endangered and or extinct. What makes Dholes similar to how other animals become enraged or existent is the environmental factors. Environment plays a lot in peoples and animals lives, including Dholes. The restriction of habitat is a big reason for dholes becoming endangered. The territory the dholes live and thrive in is slowly being taken away from them by deforestation and people building around these areas. The San Diego zoo made an article about Dholes, this article summarizes this idea by stating "The primary threat for dholes, though, is habitat loss. As dholes lose places to live and reproduce, so do their prey. If there is nowhere safe to live and nothing to eat, then the Dhole will slowly die out." This explains what the main threat which is habitat lose, which turns into a cycle and effects other species which effects the flow of the ecosystem. Dholes also experience lose of population because poaching and diseases. Locals kill of Dholes because they are seen as dangerous pest. While dholes also contract a lot of diseases killing the population further, such diseases are distemper and rabies which are contracted by domestic dogs. So how are people trying to stop this if we know whats causing it?

However, there are some ways people are working together in order to help the population of dholes, not to much is being done because dholes are so unknown to people around the world. There is thing to help dholes and its called Support tiger and Asian elephant conservation efforts, this effort also helps dholes. This effort also helps protect the prey of dholes. Another group of people that are putting effort into preserving the population of dholes is a website called Dhole conversation fund is made to educate people about dholes. As their opening says "We are dedicated to preventing Dholes (Cuon alpinus) from going extinct. We work internationally and locally to help with clarifying and solving dhole conservation problems while bringing about a larger awareness for dholes." "The Dhole Conservation Fund is dedicated to helping solve these issues and help bring about a larger global awareness of these amazing social canines." As you can see this is one of the ways that people are trying to take action to protect dholes. So, what can we do to help the population of dholes?

There may be many more ways that we can help the population of Dholes. I believe that save the endangered has a solution that may protect the population of dholes. What if we made it a Federal offense to take, possess, transport, or sell dholes, similar to how bald eagles are protected. There may be a way we could also protect dholes locally. Save the endangered may be a way that we could go locally in order to monitor the population and prey of Dholes. Set up a site near but far enough to not disturb the population of dholes and monitor and learn more about dholes life and how human population acts around dholes and how the human population affects the population of dhole. After gathering and seeing the population of dholes we could teach locals and talk to the Federal government in order to protect these animals. This will help the population because we could gather information and inform people across the globe to why and how we could save this species.

So, what is the problems for dholes and how could we help them? As you can see that the population of dholes are declining, lose of habitat, diseases and lose of prey are all contributing to the lose of population. However people are taking actions to boost the population, such as informing people of dholes. What can you do to help the population of dholes?
Endangered Species Act for dholes image
ESA (Endangered species act) act was passed for dholes in 2008. The profound low population of this species was the cause of this act being passed for dholes. Dholes where at risk of becoming extinct causing congress to pass this law. So whats the purpose of ESA? Well in fact ESA is very impotent for the survival of a endangered or threatened animals. The passing of an act allows the animal to be protected, this act also insures that the people protecting this species will do everything in their power to make the population boom and thrive.

Amendments where added to ensure that this act is in full power. ESA has four, one being that federal agencies are allowed to jeopardize a species if needed to granted by cabinet level committee (section 7). The second being that boundaries where listed for such endangered animals, but money, animal, etc was taken into consideration of boundaries (section 4). Third, "The Secretary of Agriculture (for the Forest Service) was directed to join the Secretaries of Interior, Commerce, and Defense in developing a program for conserving fish, wildlife and plants, including listed species; land acquisition authority was extended to all such species (section 5); ". last  but not least the 5th amendment, "The definition of "species" with respect to "populations" was restricted to vertebrates; otherwise, any species, subspecies, or variety of plant, or species or subspecies of animal remained eligible for protection under the Act (section 3)." All of these could be listed on the website https://www.fws.gov/endangered/laws-policies/esa-1978.html

Dholes are considered a endangered species by the government in hopes of restoring the population. Congress had passed the ESA , this infected the population of Dholes in many ways. The population is now protected therefor limiting people who mess with Dholes habitats and the actual animals, this allows for Dholes population to become better. However the government could do more to protect this endangered animal. The government could fund more money into services that protect endangered animals, and put forth into getting more people involved in protection of endangered species. However, you yourself can make a big difference in  theses animals lives! What you do in day to day life will affect not only you but the beings around you, so be mind full. Make sure you don't litter and recycle, trash has to go somewhere and if that on bag of popcorn that you thew on the ground can end up and Asia and in Dholes habitats or other endangered animals habitat engendering them. Stay out of places you know a endangered animal is and read up about such animals in order to know what you can do to fight the fight of getting these animals population up so they can be a thriving population.
